Of course not all jobs can be done without the help, but some simple ones are easily accomplished. One popular do it yourself job is a faucet replacement. Many people do this to upgrade their bathrooms without having to spend a ton of money. It may seem quite easy to replace a bathroom faucet, but there are many things that people forget before they start. In order to make sure that your job goes smoothly and there are no problems, our plumbers here at Indianapolis Plumbing have put together a short list of things you want to remember to do so that your job gets done and done well.

1. Forgetting to Turn Off Water

Before you even start unscrewing a screw on your faucet you need to turn off the main water valve. If you forget to turn off the main water valve you may end up injuring yourself or even flooding your home. If you do end up flooding your home you will absolutely need to call a plumber which you could have done in the first place. If you really want to make sure that the job is done right and you will not need the plumber then make sure the water is turned completely off.

2. Not Sealing Threads

You may think that the threads on the nails and parts you are using will seal enough so that the faucet will not leak. Sadly, this is not the case. To make sure that there is no space between any of the threading you will want to use plumber's tape. This is a thin, usually white, tape that you simply apply over the threads before you attach two pieces together. Without this tape you will most likely end up with leaks that will waste money and water.

3. Reusing Old Parts

Why use old parts when you are already installing a brand new faucet? You may just be replacing the faucet for a new look, but most likely you are replacing it because there was something wrong with it. Why use old parts they may have been the original problem when you can purchase new ones while you are at the store. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry.

4. Guessing About Parts

The easiest way to replace your faucet with the right pieces and sizes you should bring your old faucet with you to the store. By doing this an associate can help you find the exact size faucet you will need for your bathroom.

5. Not Giving Yourself Enough Time

Always make sure you leave enough time for the job. Yes, it may not necessarily take that long to replace, but what if something were to go wrong? By giving yourself enough time you will not have to rush and possibly make a mistake.

Whenever you need help or advice you can always consult a professional residential plumber.
